Leroy Anderson was an American composer of short light concert pieces many of which were introduced during the 1950's by the Boston Pops under Arthur Fiedler Sleigh Ride is probably his most famous piece. It was not written as a Christmas piece, but as a as a depiction of a winter event, Anderson started the work during a heat wave in August 1946. The Boston Pops recorded recording of sleigh ride was the first pure orchestral piece to reach number one on the billboard pop music chart. Orchestral effects if you listen carefully, you'll hear them. Well control effects featured in the piece include the clip clop sounds of the horses hooves a horse.
